Correspondence Course FAQ's
What Is CLTI?
- The Church Leadership Training Institute is a correspondence study program sponsored by Portland Bible College and City Bible Church of Portland, Oregon. As such it reflects the beliefs and philosophies of P.B.C. and City Bible Church.
- C.L.T.I. seeks to serve and build up the local church and its ministry in the pentecostal/charismatic tradition.
What Is A C.L.T.I. Correspondence Course?
- The courses are designed to be as much like being a resident student at Portland Bible College as possible. The core of each course is a series of taped lectures covering the material for each lesson. A one credit-hour course will contain 12 lessons, a two credit-hour course 24 lessons, and a three credit-hour course as many as 36 lessons.
- The "Learning Packet" will include audio tapes of the lectures as well as a workbook containing all the notes relating to the tapes, as well as interactive worksheets and assignments.
- Appropriate textbooks will also be included with each course as ordered.
- C.L.T.I. students will be able to correspond with the administrative office at any point in the completion of a course. Members of the C.L.T.I. staff will grade the worksheets, assignments, project(s) and exams as well as be available for assistance.
What Do I Get For Completing A C.L.T.I. Course?
- Since C.L.T.I. is a correspondence program offered by Portland Bible College, it is not possible to earn a degree through C.L.T.I.
- It is possible to complete enough credits to earn a Graduation Certificate through C.L.T.I.
- C.L.T.I. credits are transferable to Portland Bible College and to most other Christian institutions of higher learning where there are parallel credits offered in their program. It is necessary to earn a grade of "C" or better for a credit to be transferable.
What Do I Have To Do To Register For A C.L.T.I. Course?
- To enroll for a C.L.T.I. course you must be at least 16 years of age.
- Study the C.L.T.I. Description of Courses and Charges and decide which course(s) you wish to take. Then fill out the Registration form in full. Be sure to sign the "Copyright Agreement."
- If you are registering through the mail, send in your completed "Registration" form along with the appropriate fees less any relevant discounts. You will then receive a notice in the mail confirming your enrollment in the Church Leadership Training Institute and will receive your first Learning Packet(s).
- If you are registering online, complete the Online Course Registration procedures. We will then contact you (either by phone, e-mail or regular mail) confirming your registration and making final arrangements with you.
What Is A C.L.T.I Study Group?
- Two or more students may register together for a Study Group. In this way the members of the group can keep each other motivated, disciplined and on track. One of the members of the Study Group will be asked to function as the Group Coordinator.
- One set of tapes will be provided the Group Coordinator with a workbook for each student. Study Groups will be expected to complete the lessons and the course together. Study groups will be required to make a payment for the entire group and will receive a group discount. A special registration form is available at the C.L.T.I. office for study groups.
What Is A C.L.T.I. Extension Course?
- A special service is available to local church who desire to establish their own systematic ministry and leadership training program. You can begin your own training program by qualifying to offer a C.L.T.I. Extension Course.
- A qualified person would need to be approved to function as a C.L.T.I. Extension Course Teacher. The Administration office would then work with him/her in conducting a class as designed by C.L.T.I. At the end of the course college credit would be awarded the students by C.L.T.I. Complete information is available upon request.
