 Extension Course FAQ's

What Is A C.L.T.I. Extension Course?

  • It is a Bible College level course taught in the local church by a qualified teacher.
  • The materials from a Church Leadership Training Institute course form the curriculum.
  • Successful completion of the course is then worth one, two or three credits.

Why Offer A C.L.T.I Extension Course?

  • As a way to assist a local Pastor in establishing his own Bible and ministerial training program in the local church.
  • As a means of further developing the local church training program by offering courses with transferable college credits.

Who May Qualify To Teach An Extension Course?

  • A leader in the local church who has a proven gift for teaching.
  • This leader must be thoroughly familiar with the course being offered.

What Would Be The Responsibility Of The Extension Course Teacher?

  • To coordinate the registration of students in the course.
  • To present the material for each lesson. This may be done in a variety of ways:
    • By playing part or all of the C.L.T.I. taped lecture recorded live at Portland Bible College.
    • By supplementing the audio tape with clarifying material developed by the teacher.
    • By lecturing on all the material in the lesson, using the audio tape only for-class preparation.
    • By answering any questions students might have.
  • To grade all the worksheets, study projects and exams involved in the extension course.
  • To correspond with the C.L.T.I office.

How Would The C.L.T.I Office Work Together With The Extension Course Teacher?

  • We would provide all the administrative forms and procedures that pertain to the extension course.
  • We would process all the registration forms from the individual students, establishing and maintaining permanent academic records for each one. This would be in addition to-whatever records the local church school may need to maintain.
  • We would provide the extension course teacher with all relevant course materials, including a complete Learning Packet and Score Key.
  • We would review all graded Worksheets, Study Projects and Exams mailed in by the extension course teacher, along with a copy of the teacher's Grade Record, and record all grades in the students' permanent academic record.
  • At the completion of the course we would provide Certificates of Completion from the Church Leadership Training Institute for each student.
  • In addition, we will provide whatever assistance and support the extension course teacher may need for the duration of the course.

What Are The Steps Involved In Offering A C.L.T.I. Extension Course?

  • Any C.L.T.I. course currently available is automatically available for use as an extension course. The Pastor and/or the designated teacher can decide which course to offer. Contact may then be made with the C.L.T.I. office so the appropriate registration forms and procedures can be sent.
  • The designated teacher must then apply to the Church Leadership Training Institute to qualify as an extension course teacher. This will include the completion of a Pastor's Recommendation.
  • When the teacher's application is approved, an appropriate number of student registration forms will be sent to him/her. The class can then be announced in the local church and students can begin registering for it.

What Is The Cost Of Offering A Bible College Course Through Extension?

Since far more of the work in offering the course will be handled by the teacher instead of C.L.T.I., the cost of the course will be significantly less. In fact, a C.L.T.I. Extension Course will be about one third that of a C.L.T.I. Study Group.

If you would like to begin planning an Extension Course, e-mail us today or contact us at the C.L.T.I. office at 9150 N.E. Fremont St., Portland, Oregon 97220, (503) 255-3540.
