Score Key Introduction
Course Learning Packet:
1. Before you beginning using this C.L.T.I. course Score Key
you will want to thoroughly familiarize yourself with the related
Learning Packet. Begin by reading the Course Introduction. This
will describe the correspondence course contents and procedures
in detail.
2. Then study the Course Syllabus. Every college course, whether
it be a resident or correspondence course, must have a carefully
written syllabus. The Course Syllabus for this course informs
the student of the instructor, the number of credits* assigned
to the course, the text being used, the Course Description and
Course Objectives, what is required to complete the course, and
the grading strategy. The Course Requirements describes the method
used in completing the Worksheets, the schedule of exams, and
the Study Project prescribed by the course. You may want to use
part if not most of the C.L.T.I. Course Syllabus in your Extension
Course.
3. Next look over the Lesson Outlines. These Lesson Outlines
contain interactive notes for each recorded lecture. These include
fill-in blanks and space for notes. You are free to copy these
notes for use as hand-outs in your Extension Course if you so
desire.
4. You have also received audio cassettes of each lesson taught
at P.B.C. You may play part or all of these taped lectures in
your class sessions, or you may use them for course preparation
only.
5. Examine the accompanying Worksheets. The Worksheets contain
study questions from each lesson and may also give the schedule
for completion of other course assignments, including the Study
Project. It is necessary for you to make copies of each Worksheet
for your students to be completed at the end of each lesson.
* NOTE on College Credits. The number of college credits assigned
to a course simply reflect the amount of classroom time and/or
lessons taught in that course. Portland Bible College / C.L.T.I.
is on the semester system and therefore assigns "semester
hours" to its courses. One credit is equivalent to 12-16
lessons (of 45-50 minutes each). Please keep this in mind when
assigning credits to your Extension Course.
Lessons:
1. The Lessons section of your Score Key contains all the C.L.T.I.
lessons with the blanks filled in. This provides you with a complete
set of teaching notes. However, keep in mind that audio recordings
of the P.B.C. lectures contain much more than what is reflected
in the written notes. You will want to listen to these tapes
and take supplementary notes before teaching a lesson.
2. The Lesson Outlines also contain illustrative materials you
might find useful in the conduct of your Extension Course. You
can easily copy them to make student hand-outs (if you are not
handing out copies of the Lesson Outlines from the Learning Packet)
and/or overhead transparencies.
3. When teaching your Extension Course, each "lesson"
should correspond to the lesson in the C.L.T.I. course, whether
or not it takes you more than one class session to teach it.
Worksheets:
1. Your Score Key also includes a section of Worksheets containing
the answers to the study questions. Each Worksheet should receive
up to 100 points. Divide the number of study questions into these
100 points to determine the average number of points available
for each question. Please note that the page numbers on the Score
Key Worksheets may not always correspond to the page numbers
of the blank Worksheets (due to the extra space required to provide
the answers).
2. The answers provided are taken from the Lesson Outlines. Please
note that these answers may be direct quotes from the notes,
general answers, or complete answers. Therefore a certain amount
of flexibility must be used in grading your students' Worksheets.
It is acceptable for students to give answers in their own words.
And when a complete answer is given, a partial answer is acceptable
from the student. The essential thing is that the student has
demonstrated a general but clear grasp of the correct answer.
3. When grading the Worksheets, be sure to record each grade
on your Grade Record and return the graded Worksheet back to
the student as soon as possible.
Exams:
1. An exam is to be administered after every twelve lessons with
a final exam at the end of the course. Please allow at least
30 minutes and as much as an hour for each exam. Students may
prepare for the exam by reviewing their graded Worksheets.
2. Your Score Key contains the blanks exams. You may make copies
of these exams to be used in your Extension Course. Usually a
key questions will be taken from each Worksheet to be asked on
the exam. The Final Exam reviews some of the questions from each
of the previous exams. The Final Exam is designed specifically
for the correspondence format--you may choose to not use it in
your Extension Course. However, if you wish to give your students
a comprehensive final exam (rather than the last exam being the
final), please use the Final Exam provided for you in the Score
Key.
3. A copy of each exam with the answers provided is also included.
These are the same answers as those provided with the Worksheets.
The same guidelines should be used in grading them. Be sure to
record the grade on your Grade Record. However, do not return
the graded exam to the student. Instead, design some kind of
grade report and use it to communicate the exam grade.
Project(s):
1. The Score Key also provides a means of grading the course
Study Project(s). This may include study questions accompanying
the text book(s) and/or a written assignment. Reading assignments
are usually included on the Worksheets and should be graded simply
by whether or not they were completed.
2. If the Study Project is study questions for the text book(s),
the questions along with the answers will be provided. Use the
same procedures for grading as you did for the Worksheets. Count
questions for each chapter from the text as equivalent to a single
Worksheet, each one being worth a maximum of 100 points.
3. If the Study Project is a written assignment(s), a "model"
paper will be included in the Score Key. Use flexibility in assigning
a grade to written assignment, depending on the specific requirements
of the course.
Procedures:
1. Before conducting your Extension Course be sure to review
the Course Procedures & Charges
provided in advance.
2. It is especially important that proper procedures be consistently
followed throughout the course. It is also important that proper
records be kept. Remember that for your students to receive college
credit from C.L.T.I. for their course, a copy of your Grade Record
must be turned in by you.
3. In addition, all the graded Worksheets, Exams and Study Project(s)
will need to be sent to the C.L.T.I. office. These will be perused
by the C.L.T.I. staff to verify that the requirements for college
credit have been fulfilled.
