LIFE OF CHRIST
Lesson 1. Introduction

(Audio Clip)

I. The Importance of the Life of Christ

A. The most significant life ever lived.

1. The life of Christ was recorded four times--in the four Gospels.

2. The Old Testament contains over 300 prophecies of the life of Christ. All of them were fulfilled in his life.

...the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins (Mat. 9:6).

Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven (Mat. 10:32).

3. Some scholars say only 50 days of Jesus' life were recorded in the Gospels, or less than 5% of his total ministry.

B. He's the most important person that exists.

I and My Father are one (John 10:30).

He who has seen Me has seen the Father (John 14:9).

No one comes to the Father except through Me (John 14:6).

...who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him (1 Pet. 3:22).

Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12).

I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom (2 Tim. 4:1).

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him ( Col. 1:15-16).

C. He's the greatest example. There is no higher pursuit than to want to be life him.

1. "Eat the book."

2. Read Christian biographies.

Follow my example, as I follow the example of Christ (1 Cor. 11:1 NIV).

D. He is more than "just Jesus." His was a common name in his day, the same as "Joshua," "Jeshua," and "Jehoshua." His name is recorded over 600 times in the Gospels. There were at least five high priests named Jesus. Josephus records 20 men named Jesus. Paul's friend was called Jesus Justus (Col. 4:11). "Jesus Christ" and "Lord Jesus" are found six times in the Gospels.
