Course Description: An indepth study of the nine Biblical covenants that God made with men; with emphasis on the progressive revelation of the eternal purposes of God.
Text: Malmin, Ken & Conner, Kevin. Covenants. Portland: B.T. Publishing, 1983.
Course Objectives:
1. To study the theme of covenant in its Historical and Biblical context.
2. To observe the different Divine covenants as they exist in Scripture. This includes their historical setting, distinctives, and relationships to other covenants in Scripture.
3. To see how the covenantal theme affects theological issues through the Bible.
4. To make application of the covenantal principle to the life of the individual believer.
Course Requirements:
1. The Worksheets and their Study Questions at the end of each lesson must be completed.
2. There will be three essay exams: after lessons 12, 24, and 35.
3. There will also be a final exam at the end of the course.
4. Two Study Projects will be due at the end of the course:
1. Each student will write a paper entitled "My Covenant with God." Each student is to evaluate his or her relationship with God in light of the covenantal theme. It will include the impact this currently has as well as the ongoing implications. The paper is to be typed.
2. Do a word study on one of the nine covenantal seals. (Tree of Life, Coats of skin, rainbow, circumcision, Sabbath, rain, sun, moon, and stars, Holy Spirit, Everlasting Life) This paper would include:
a. Locating each Biblical occurrence of the word
b. Making and recording observations (such as - natural occurrences vs symbolism, O.T. passages vs N.T. passages, prophetic passages, poetic passages).
c. Categorizing the material into outline form.
This paper should be typed, 1500 words in length and should give a list of references used.
Grading:
1. Worksheets (40%).
2. Exams (40%).
3. Study Projects (20%).
