Course Description: A study of the books of Joshua, Judges and Ruth, placing emphasis both on historical content and spiritual application.
Text: The Bible.
Course Objectives:
1. OBSERVATION. To accurately perceive the facts of each passage and explore relevant background information.
2. INTERPRETATION. To discern the meaning and significance of the events and determine the principles of truth they illustrate.
3. APPLICATION. To describe how the principles of truth communicated in these passages are relevant to our lives today.
Course Requirements:
1. The Worksheets and their Study Questions, including the Bible reading assignments, must be completed at the end of each lesson.
2. There will be three essay exams: after lessons 12, 24 and 36.
3. There will also be a final exam at the end of the course.
4. Do a study of the seven nations Joshua was commanded to destroy in Canaan (Joshua 3:10). Who were they? what were the marks of their culture? why did God want them destroyed?
5. Do a character sketch of one of the major judges (Deborah, Gideon, Abimelech, Jephthah or Samson). Consider the following questions:
· What is the meaning of the person's name? A name will often represent a person's character, experience or ministry.
· What is their ancestral background? What kind of a heritage did they have?
· What was the political, religious, and cultural situation of their day? What was their environment like?
· What great events took place in their lifetime?
· Who were their friends and associates? A person is often known by this friends.
· What character traits (both positive and negative) did they exhibit?
· What were their failures and successes?
· What influence did they have on those around them?
· What was their relationship to God like?
· What lessons can be drawn from their life?
Once again your study must be approximately three pages, typewritten and double spaced and will be due at the end of the course.
